Ruminations of a Graduate Class

On blogging and Latex

It is easy to put Latex in a WordPress blog. In fact, there are two ways. The simplest is just to put Latex code in your text following the instructions here.

http://en.support.wordpress.com/latex/

The second way to download latex2wp to your own computer – see

http://sourceforge.net/projects/latex2wp/

and

http://lucatrevisan.wordpress.com/latex-to-wordpress/download/

then produce a document.tex file on your own computer, then use the above program to convert document.tex to document.html, then cut and past the document.html file to the blog entry.

Both methods have the flaws 1) not all Latex commands work (e.g. \begin{align}) and 2) the math produced is kinda ugly: e.g,

The unit circle is given by the equation x^2 + y^2 = 1.

Here the equation is in a different font and appears as a subscript.

With different hosts, one can use MathJax and get better looking math. If someone is interested in pursuing this and has the time to do so, please talk to me, sooner rather than later.
